"Harmony in community currency systems between sustainability of nature, culture and economy and technological innovation"

The ongoing technological monetary innovation towards cashless digital economy is surprisingly rapid and seemingly inevitable along ICT progress. It certainly enhances efficiency of operation as well as convenience and traceability of economic transactions, but it may run various risks of doing harm to sustainability of nature, culture and economy by entire dependence of our daily life on information processing and communication through electronic devise.

First, it may possibly deteriorate the nature of care and bond based on direct human contacts in the neighborhood and dissolve conventional communities, so that it might endanger reproduction of nature, culture and economy. Second, we have realized through recent experiences of natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis and typhoons that our electronic civilization built on electricity supply is quite vulnerable to power failure.

It is necessary to face such risks and recognize the issues in this digital society in order to achieve harmony in community currency systems between sustainability of nature, culture and economy and technological innovation. What kinds of non-conventional monetary concepts and techniques should be introduced? What kinds of diversified communities and relationships between man and man, man and nature, and man and culture are desirable? What are the final goals to seek for and how can we attain them?

We would like to invite a variety of practitioners such as municipal governments, chambers of commerce and industry, nonprofit organizations, private firms and citizens to join us and tackle various tasks with us.

More generally, proposals on any topics covered by the scope of RAMICS will be positively considered, that is, on diverse monetary and social exchange systems, such as schemes that contribute to economic diversity, social cohesion, democratic participation and environmental sustainability, like complementary and community currencies.

Guidelines

1. The proposal should be submitted in English or Japanese, using the template supplied in docx format.
2. The proposal should be no longer than 500 words in English or 1,500 characters in Japanese.
3. The Organizing Committee is in charge of reviewing all submitted proposals.
